Putin Meets Senior North Korean Official to Strengthen Strategic Ties

Strengthening Russia-North Korea Relations
Russian President Vladimir Putin held an important meeting with Ri Hi Yong, a senior official from North Korea, in Moscow on Thursday. This meeting highlights the continued deepening of ties between the two countries. Ri, a member of North Korea's Politburo and the secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), engaged in high-level discussions with Putin at the Kremlin.

Acknowledging North Korea’s Support
During the meeting, President Putin expressed his gratitude for North Korea’s unwavering support for Russia, particularly amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He specifically emphasized North Korea’s role in standing by Russia during this challenging time.

Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement
The relationship between the two nations reached a significant milestone with the formation of a new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This partnership, which includes a mutual defense clause for military assistance, officially came into effect in December 2024, following the ratification of documents in Moscow. This agreement was initially signed during Putin’s visit to Pyongyang in June, which included a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Reports of North Korean Troops in Ukraine
Despite neither Russia nor North Korea confirming reports, allegations have surfaced suggesting that North Korea has sent thousands of troops to assist Russian forces in Ukraine. This ongoing military and diplomatic alignment underscores the growing cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang in global affairs.

This meeting between Putin and Ri marks a significant moment in the evolving relationship between Russia and North Korea, emphasizing shared interests and mutual support in a volatile global context.
